RICHARD RYDER
Founder, owner, and President of Union River Boat Company. Richard has been building
boats since leaving the Coast Guard in 1974. Before founding Union River Boat Company
in 1994 Richard (among other things) built juniper fishing dories; led a crew building and
installing cabinetry for Hinckley Yachts; led the construction of a custom 93’ composite
sailing yacht for Able Marine; and built a reputation for quality, innovation, and accuracy
that is unparalleled.
Richard has been a hands-on business owner, at times running all aspects of URB from
payroll to production. Since his daughter Belle joined the company in 2003, he has
focused on building plugs and shepherding new projects through production
development.
Richard and his wife, Pat, have three daughters and live in Bucksport, ME.
BELLE RYDER
Operations Manager. Belle first worked for Union River Boat Company during the
summer of 1994 as her father’s first employee. She subsequently earned her B.S. in
Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maine in 1998. After a brief career as a sales
engineer and stay-at-home mother she returned to Union River Boat Company in 2003.
Belle has learned the business from the ground up. Although she started by working on
the production floor, she currently oversees fiberglass production projects, mold
construction, and customer relationships.
Belle and her husband, Matt, have three children and live in Bucksport, ME.
